Rep. Yassamin Ansari, the Democratic representative from Arizona, said the Trump family is “criminals who should be locked up” in a June 2026 interview, citing the alleged corruption in the White House in the face of economic hardships endured by the constituents that Ansari represents.

The Democratic lawmaker made the comments during a MeidasTouch interview with Jack Cocchiarella, a portion of which was widely circulated on social media in a post by digital editor @Acyn.

During the interview, Cocchiarella asked Ansari about recent comments from Ivanka Trump regarding a proposed luxury island development, explaining that the proposal seemed “bizarre.” “Have you seen this video? This is not Epstein, I know that. Although it kind of does seem Epstein-ish, with the island, the bunker, and the nuclear facilities. What was your immediate reaction to seeing this video?”

Ansari called the video disturbing, stating, “Felt very dystopian. We know they all live in their own, like, crazy dystopian reality. I mean, they think they’re doing amazing things for people. I think Ivanka just thinks, like, she’s so wonderful, and she did all of these incredible things during her time in the first administration.” She went on to cite concerns regarding Ivanka Trump’s husband, Jared Kushner, and his continued work on foreign policy despite having no official capacity in government as “deeply corrupt.”

Turning her remarks toward the entire Trump family, Ansari stated, “The Trump family is a family of criminals who should be locked up, and they need to go to jail for the crimes that they have committed, for the fraud that they have committed.” She highlighted reported protests from Albanian locals over the island development as additional evidence of their wrongdoing, describing the incident as “disgusting and insane.”

She drew a stark contrast between the events and the economic realities of her constituents. “Americans cannot afford to live. The people in my district, all of the calls in my district office are either families getting separated by ICE, the Trump regime, or inability to afford health insurance, inability to afford rent, people going quite literally going homeless because they can’t afford anything,” she said. She further contrasted this reality with the family’s reported actions, saying, “And then you have Ivanka talking about her bullshit island and Trump saying that he loves inflation. It’s all just disgusting and dystopian.”

In a social media post later that day, Ansari declared the Trump administration “the most corrupt administration in American history, and it’s not close.”

The White House did not respond to a request for comment.
