Rep. Lauren Boebert decided not to support President Donald Trump’s assertion that people opposing data centers were “backwards and poor”. Instead, Boebert emphasized that her campaign aims to give local governments the ability to decide whether to build data centers.
On his personal social media, Truth Social, on Monday, President Trump stated that the opposition of communities against data centers could make them “backwards and poor” and that such behavior could affect economic development and competition with China in the field of artificial intelligence.
MeidasTouch reporter Pablo Manriquez asked Boebert about the president’s statement.
“What do you make of Trump saying Americans who oppose data centers are backwards and poor?” Manriquez asked.
“The president says a lot of things. Sometimes, it’s really funny,” Boebert stated. “Anyway, I fought for data centers to have local control.”
Boebert reiterated her view when asked whether it differed from President Trump’s.
“So you disagree, basically?” Manriquez asked.
“I want people to have local control,” Boebert said. “That’s what I fought for. That’s what we got.”
