Social Media Reacts to 7-Second Video of Rep. Lauren Boebert Racing Into the Capitol at Night

A seven-second video showing Rep. Lauren Boebert running up the steps of the U.S. Capitol building at night went viral, garnering many views and comments on social media.

The shaky footage credited to Pablo Manriquez and the MeidasTouch Network shows Boebert in a green sleeveless top and plaid skirt, her hair flying, as she hurries up the building’s steps. Boebert is seen carrying an item and raising her hand to get to the votes.

The post made on July 22 already collected more than 3 million views and many comments by that day.

The video captured the moment of urgency in the legislative process. On Tuesday, the House, controlled by Republicans, passed the short-term bill, preventing a possible government shutdown ahead of the midterms next November and financing the agencies until December 4.

The vote will send the stopgap, known as a continuing resolution, to the Senate, where the Republicans will look for their own short-term financing option.

The footage reminded me of a similar viral video from earlier. In June 2023, CNN’s producer posted footage of Boebert running up the Capitol steps on the night of the debt ceiling vote, saying she missed the vote as a “no-show protest,” according to The Hill. But the video seemed to disprove that statement, as Newsweek reported that it had been viewed more than 12 million times.

In online comments, many users focused more on Boebert’s appearance and previous scandals than on the legislation mentioned in the video, including a scandal at the “Beetlejuice” theater performance in 2023.

“The subtle chin wipe. That mouth work must go batshit,” one user commented. “If ‘the jokes write themselves’ were a person,” commented another.

Some people recalled the theater scandal. “Haven’t seen her move this fast since her seat opened up at the Beetlejuice concert,” one of the comments stated. “Bobo was up to something,” commented another.

“Hate to say it. She’s hot,” one of the men wrote.

Boebert was removed from Denver’s city-owned Buell Theatre during the September 2023 performance of the musical “Beetlejuice” for vaping, singing, and causing a disturbance, as noted in the incident report cited by NPR and The Denver Post. She apologized several days later, although she first denied vapes, as stated by The Associated Press.

Boebert represents Colorado’s 4th District and will run in the 2026 elections.
