Peacock has released the official trailer for “The Good Daughter,” a limited-series thriller starring Rose Byrne and Meghann Fahy as sisters still traumatized by the night that destroyed their family. All six episodes debut November 12th on the NBCUniversal streaming service.
The series is adapted from Karin Slaughter’s 2017 novel of the same name. Slaughter, whose books inspired ABC’s “Will Trent” and the Netflix series “Pieces of Her,” wrote all six episodes and serves as showrunner and executive producer.
“‘The Good Daughter’ is a story of love, family and the unbreakable bond between two resilient, funny, difficult sisters,” said Slaughter in a statement. “It’s thrilling to watch Charlie and Sam brought to life by two extraordinarily talented women. Rose and Meghann perfectly captured the sister relationship, all the history, heartache and joy, wrapped inside this puzzle of a mystery.”
Peacock describes the series as a suspenseful thriller wrapped in a deeply emotional story of love, family and resilience. Fahy stars as Charlotte Quinn, and Byrne stars as her sister, Samantha. The two have spent 20 years trying to piece together the lives they shattered in one night of violence. When another attack shakes their small town of Pikeville, Charlotte, a lawyer like her father, is the first witness at the scene. As the case unfolds amid painful memories and hidden secrets, what comes to light is a story of survival, of the strong connection between a father and his daughters and the complex relationship between sisters.
In Slaughter’s novel, the conflict begins when two men break into the family’s rural Georgia home to exact revenge on the girls’ father, Rusty Quinn, a defense attorney despised in Pikeville for defending people no one else would defend. The attack results in their mother’s death and Samantha’s near-fatal injuries. Years later, Charlotte finds herself embroiled in a shooting incident at a local school, an event that reunites her with her estranged sister.
Brendan Gleeson plays Rusty, and Olivia Williams plays the sisters’ mother, Harriet “Gamma” Quinn. Harper Steele plays Lenore, Michael Dorman plays Ben, and Audrey Grace Marshall plays a younger Samantha. Rounding out the series regulars are Drew Cheek and Paula Malcomson, with Jake McDorman also guest-starring.
Byrne, who also executive produces, is in the midst of one of the biggest award seasons of her career. The Australian actress won a Golden Globe in January and earned her first Academy Award nomination for her lead role in “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.” She is also known for “Bridesmaids,” “Damages,” and “Platonic.”
Fahy has been nominated twice for an Emmy, first for her supporting role as Daphne Sullivan in the second season of HBO’s “The White Lotus” and again for her lead role in the Netflix limited series “Sirens.” Her other credits include Netflix’s “The Perfect Couple” and the thriller “Drop.”
The supporting cast is just as impressive. Gleeson was nominated for an Oscar for “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Williams starred in “Dune: Prophecy” and “The Father,” and Steele, a former “Saturday Night Live” writer, appeared alongside Will Ferrell in the documentary “Will & Harper.”
Steph Green directs all six episodes and serves as an executive producer. Green received an Emmy nomination for her work on HBO’s “Watchmen” and has directed episodes of “The Americans.” She was also nominated for an Academy Award for her short film “New Boy.”
Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky and Casey Haver executive produce for Made Up Stories, the production company behind “The Undoing,” “Pieces of Her” and “Wolf Like Me.” Made Up Stories produced the series in partnership with global film and television studio Fifth Season, which handles international distribution.
Fifth Season has already sold the series to Sky in the United Kingdom and Ireland, Bell Media in Canada, Stan in Australia, Sky in New Zealand and HBO Max in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Stan will stream the series in Australia starting Nov. 13, coinciding with the U.S. premiere.
Two years have passed since the series was ordered. Peacock ordered the series in March 2024 with Jessica Biel starring. Biel left the project that September, and Byrne and Fahy were announced as the leads that December. Peacock gave fans their first glimpse of the series in September with a teaser, a poster, and the first photos.
Slaughter, a native of Georgia, has sold more than 40 million copies of her books, which are published in 120 countries.
All six episodes of “The Good Daughter” will debut on November 12th on Peacock.
