Shakira Attends The Opening Of The 9th School Built By Her Pies Descalzos Foundation

Today, Shakira attends the inauguration of the 9th public school built by her Pies Descalzos Foundation in Barranquilla, Colombia.

The new educational infrastructure in the El Bosque de Barranquilla neighborhood spans over 6,000 square meters and includes, among other things, 26 classrooms, two laboratories, arts and technology classrooms, a library, and multiple courts.

Shakira shared an Instagram video about the special day for her foundation and many children in Barranquilla, Colombia.

“Nothing better than coming back to Barranquilla and this time inaugurating this new Barefoot school that will serve 1050 students,” Shakira wrote in the caption of her Instagram post. “Thanks to our allies Fundacion FC Barcelona, La Caixa LaSalle College Foundation, Mayor Pumarejo, Mayor of Barranquilla, and the Secretary of Education for adding efforts and betting on the future of Colombian children.”

Shakira established the non-profit organization at the age of 18. According to the website, the Pies Descalzos Foundation seeks to improve the education and social development of children in Colombia, which has been ravaged by decades of conflict.
