Social media is in shock after popular social influencer Iris Hsieh was found dead in a bathtub at a Kuala Lumpur hotel in late October at just 31. Highly popular with over 500,000 followers, Iris was loved for her “dreamy” travel blogs and “soft” glamorous aesthetic.
“Sudden death” has just turned out to be a full-blown murder investigation, according to Malaysian officials, as fans remain heartened and demanding answers.
The Last Person With Her
“It was reported that his last interaction was with controversial Malaysian rap musician Namewee, whom he was staying in a hotel room with when the incident occurred,” according to a report from Malaysian news source The Star.
On Sunday, Namewee posted a long message through his Insta page stating that he was “deeply sorry” to learn of Hsieh’s death. He said that it took an hour for an ambulance to arrive, while insisting that he attempted to resuscitate Hsieh.
Namewee Addresses Rumors
To make matters even more confusing, Namewee was actually arrested last month for allegedly using and possessing drugs. He was let out after paying bail, but it seems that all of this is a bit too coincidental for many people interested in this story.
On his Instagram page, he denied having or using drugs at present when he said:
“Well, when the police report is out, that’s when we will know the truth. At most, I’ve just been drinking a lot lately.”
Although the police have not named him as a suspect, all eyes are definitely on him at present.
Police: “We’re Checking Every Movement”
“We are taking statements from hotel employees and security personnel while scrutinizing the CCTVs in an attempt to understand events leading up to his death,” said local police officer Datuk Fadil Marsus in an interview with The Star.
“Investigations are ongoing from all angles, including those who were last seen with the victim,” he said.
“We will examine all of the actions of both the victim and the suspect to establish whether he is a suspect.” This is a comprehensive investigation, according to authorities, and everything that led up to his final hours is being tracked.
