DreamWorks Animation dropped the first teaser for Shrek 5, giving fans their first glimpse of the “hilarious, magical new comedy adventure” from one of animation’s most beloved franchises.
The trailer officially confirms that comedic stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz are reprising their original roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona. This will mark the first time the trio has reunited for a Shrek film in over 10 years, while introducing an entirely new ensemble that includes Emmy Award-winning actress Zendaya as Felicia, Shrek and Fiona’s daughter, “Saturday Night Live” cast member Marcello Hernandez, and “Superman” and “Booksmart’s” Skyler Gisondo, playing Felicia’s two younger brothers, Fergus and Farkle.
Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn return to the director’s chairs as franchise veterans. They will be joined by co-director Brad Ableson. Academy Award-nominee and CEO of Illumination Chris Meledandri, responsible for the Super Mario, Despicable Me, and Minions franchises, and Gina Shay, produced the animated feature.
The preview arrives at a peak of excitement for the upcoming fifth installment of the original franchise, which was first released in 2001 and received the first Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Each of the four current films has grossed over $2.9 billion worldwide, while the brand itself has expanded to include a Broadway musical, a world-touring live show, and theme park attractions at Universal Destinations & Experiences.
Shrek 5 will premiere in theaters on June 30, 2027.
