Travis Hunter, Colorado’s celebrated two-way football star started December on a career high after securing the coveted Heisman Trophy. However, what should have been a month of celebration has instead turned into a whirlwind of personal and public challenges for the athlete.
On Monday, Hunter deactivated his Instagram account, a move that came amidst a storm of online criticism directed at him and his fiancée, Leanna Lenee. The controversy escalated after the leak of explicit Snapchat videos allegedly showing Lenee with another man.
The videos, which reportedly date back three years, depict Lenee in intimate settings with the individual, raising eyebrows given her five-year relationship with Hunter. In one clip, Lenee is seen wearing just a T-shirt and underwear, while in others, she is shown in bed and later preparing food for the man.
Social media users have been vocal in their opinions, many urging Hunter to end his relationship with Lenee. The mounting pressure has diverted attention from Hunter’s budding NFL prospects, forcing the athlete to address the situation publicly.
During a recent Twitch stream, Hunter defended Lenee, expressing frustration with the growing scrutiny. “I know what I got. I know my girl. My girl’s been with me for five years,” Hunter said. “Y’all are just now starting to talk about me and just now starting to be with me. Come on, man.”
Despite his attempts to stand by his fiancée, the criticism has only intensified. The decision to step away from social media appears to be a strategy to regain focus as he prepares for the next chapter of his career.
Hunter’s personal life has become an unavoidable headline, overshadowing his recent athletic achievements. Many are hopeful that taking a break from social media will help him regroup and concentrate on his future in football.
