A 20-year-old substitute teacher with Wake County Public Schools got arrested and charged with two counts of indecent liberties with a student earlier this month. The alleged incident occurred on November 26, 2022.

A spokesperson for the Wake County Public Schools District told WRAL NEWS that “the crime did not occur on a school campus or in her capacity as a substitute.”

The substitute teacher’s name is Rachel Beahn, and she reportedly had incidents with students from Middle Creek and Holly Springs High Schools. The names and ages of the students did not get released to the public because they are minors. Beahn got suspended from her role as a substitute teacher.

Beahn is studying mathematics at North Carolina State University. She got hired as a substitute teacher on May 13, 2021, when she was still 18-years-old.

Parents expressed their confusion on how someone her age would be able to supervise students not much younger than herself, according to CBS 17.

Wake County Public Schools are in desperate need of substitute teachers. The qualifications to be a substitute teacher in the school district are they need a high school diploma, pass an online training course, and a background check.

Rachel Beahn got ordered to stay away from the victims’ homes, schools, and places of employment.
