The Wilkes County School District suspended Brittany Calloway Hemric, 32, one day after a former Wilkes Central High School student filed a complaint. The student claimed that they had an inappropriate relationship in high school.
Following a thorough investigation by the sheriff’s office, Hemric, a resident of Hamptonville, was arrested and charged with one count of felony indecent liberties with a student on Thursday, January 4th.
On January 5th, the school district acted decisively and suspended Hemric after realizing the seriousness of the accusations.
The district has reaffirmed its intention to continue investigating the matter and to coordinate its next steps with the resolution of the outstanding criminal charges against the teacher in question.
As this case progresses, the community watches for new developments.
