Woman Fires Back After TikTok Calls Her a Bad Wife Over a Haircut: “It’s Not 1874, It Is 2026”

A woman who shared her husband’s reaction to her new haircut on TikTok said she won’t let his opinion dictate how she styles her hair.

At the beginning of the video, Alexa Schweitzer revealed her attitude towards instructions.

“There’s one thing about me. I don’t like to be told what to do. Never have, never will. Sorry. I don’t care who you are. Don’t tell me what to do,” she said.

Schweitzer also mentioned the only way to make her do what people want.

“So if you want me to do something, you’re going to have to say the opposite and trick me into doing it. Whatever it is you want me to do,” Schweitzer said.

Afterward, she described her haircut, saying her husband didn’t say he didn’t like it.

“But anyway, my husband didn’t like my haircut the other day. He didn’t say he didn’t like it, but in a roundabout way, he did,” she said.

Schweitzer recounted the incident when she returned from the salon where she got her hair cut.

“He said, I get. I got my haircut colored, okay? I come home, and he says, ‘Hmm?’ What do you mean, hmm? What’s hmm mean?” she said.

She added that he was obsessed with her hair length.

“He said, ‘Much shorter, huh? Sure did. Obviously, yeah, I did. Does that mean you don’t like it, or… He said, ‘No, no, it’s fine. It’s fine. Shorter,” Schweitzer said.

Schweitzer mentioned the warning she gave to her husband.

“If you say shorter one more time, I will buzz my head all off. Clean off. Bye. I would not say shorter again, sir,” she said.

She also added that she didn’t make the decision based on him.

“I didn’t cut it for you, and I’m also not gonna grow it out for you. I don’t do it for you. I do it for me,” she said.

At the end of the video, she asked if others felt the same way.

“So I don’t know. Is anybody else like this, or is it just me? I don’t know. This is what I’m about to do,” Schweitzer said.

The video triggered a wave of criticism in the comments, which motivated her to share another one.

“I posted a video about me getting a haircut. The comments were insane. That I’m a bad wife because I cut my hair even though my husband didn’t like it,” she said.

She disagreed that the choice was out of her hands.

“News flash, it’s not 1874; it is 2026. I will cut my hair if I wanna cut my hair,” Schweitzer said.

She pointed out that having short hair was her default.

“My hair has always been short. When my husband and I got married, it was short. It only got long when I had four pregnancies back to back,” she said.

She said she cut it right after finishing all her pregnancies.

“And then I decided after I was done being pregnant that was enough of the long hair. I didn’t want it anymore. Too heavy, too hot, too much to take care of. I didn’t want it, so I cut it off,” she added.

She admitted her husband may prefer longer hair, but stressed it wouldn’t affect her decision.

“I mean, he might like it longer, sure. Do I care? Not really. Nope. Cause he married me cause he loved me. He didn’t marry me cause he liked my hair. Weird,” Schweitzer said.

She used the same logic when referring to other aspects of her appearance.

“Also, he does not get to tell me what to do with my makeup, my hair, how I dress. Like he knows. No,” she said.

She said she asked for his opinion at times but didn’t listen most of the time, even when it came from her family.

“I might ask his opinion, but most of the time, I’m probably not gonna listen to his opinion on any of it. That’s just who I am. I’ll ask my sisters their opinions, too, and usually I do the opposite,” she explained.

She finished her second video by addressing the critics personally.

“It is what it is. You guys are insane. Acting like I should only do things for my husband. I will only cut and color my hair for my husband, okay? No, I do not do that. Crazy,” Schweitzer said.
