The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy has expressed her desire to step into the role of Elsa if Disney ever decides to create a live-action version of their beloved Frozen franchise. The actress, known for her diverse roles and critically acclaimed performances, recently discussed this possibility during an interview with Vogue Hong Kong.
The Frozen franchise, which includes Frozen (2013) and Frozen 2 (2019), has cemented its place as one of the most iconic animated film series of the 21st century. With the films collectively earning billions at the box office and securing spots among the highest-grossing animated films of all time, the idea of a live-action adaptation has naturally sparked interest and speculation among fans and industry insiders. However, Disney has not yet confirmed any plans for such a remake.
Taylor-Joy, who has never shied away from challenging roles, expressed her excitement about the possibility of portraying the ice-wielding queen in a musical format. “I really want to do a musical because I’m a little too obsessed with my current job. I love the challenge of completing impossible tasks,” Taylor-Joy said. “So the idea of being able to sing, dance, and act at the same time is really exciting to me.”
The actress also shared a personal motivation for wanting the role: her nieces and nephews. “I think Frozen is going to be great. Shooting ice cubes out of your hands can be a lot of fun. And, you’ll be the favorite at every kid’s birthday party,” she exclaimed. “All my siblings have kids now, so I would love for them to be able to say, ‘My aunt is Elsa.’ That would be great!”
While Disney has not announced any live-action remake of Frozen, the studio is focusing on expanding the animated franchise, with Frozen 3 scheduled for release in 2027. Fans of the series and of Taylor-Joy alike will be watching closely to see if the actress’s wish to become the live-action Elsa will one day come true.
