AOC Calls Housing, Medicine Costs a ‘Crisis,’ Accuses Trump Administration of Worsening Inflation

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said widespread unaffordable housing and medicine costs amount to a crisis that cannot be solved by the kind of simple swaps consumers make at the grocery store, arguing that entire local markets are saddled with similarly high prices.

“It’s not easy to just find a cheaper apartment when every apartment or every home in your area is the same unaffordable price,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

She drew a distinction between rising costs for essentials and more flexible spending decisions.

“This isn’t just like going to the grocery store and buying the generic cereal and switching over,” she said. “How do you actually accommodate when you can’t afford medicine, when you can’t afford your housing? This is a crisis.”

Asked by Meidastouch correspondent Scott MacFarlane whether the administration was taking the issue seriously, Ocasio-Cortez said it was not.

“No, they’re making it worse,” she said, accusing the Trump administration of “entering sweetheart deal after sweetheart deal.” She cited policies involving Monsanto and the herbicide glyphosate in the food supply, housing, and what she described as “crypto agents that are engaged in money laundering, I think at least.”

Ocasio-Cortez said the administration was aware of the problem and was choosing to compound it.

“They are not only ignoring it, they see it, and they are actively making it worse,” she said. “And what they think is that people are too dumb to understand what it is that they’re doing.”

She said the administration was “banking on the fact that people will support them no matter what and that nothing will change that support.”

Ocasio-Cortez urged voters across the political spectrum to weigh where they stand.

“It’s really important … for every voter, regardless of your background or your party or whatever it is, to understand what your line is and what is acceptable to you,” she said.

She characterized the current level of inflation, which she said was often driven by housing, as “an actual crisis” for middle-class and everyday Americans.
