Body of Missing Colombian Woman Found in Central Mexico, Prosecutors Say

The prosecutors of the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí believe that the remains found there last week belong to Tatiana Vanessa Almanza García, a 32-year-old Colombian woman who has been missing since August 28 after having traveled through several states in Mexico.

According to the Attorney General of San Luis Potosí, María Manuela García Cázares, the body was identified. Relatives were also involved in the identification process. According to forensic experts, the victim was strangled.

No traces of any other kind of violence and no signs of rape were discovered. The body was covered by a rug, and it was in a state of decay. Preliminary results of the examination show that the woman was killed on the same day she went missing.

Almanza García was born in Buenavista in the Quindío department of Colombia and was turning 32 just a month before she went missing.

The woman lived in Mexico City but traveled through Puebla, Jalisco, Nuevo León, and Quintana Roo before arriving in San Luis Potosí. This information comes from Infobae, citing Mexican journalist Carlos Jiménez. According to those sources, the woman offered companionship services through the internet platform La Boutique VIP, considered a continuation of the former Zona Divas website.

Her relatives last heard from her in late August. One relative reported the disappearance by phone, while another relative (her sister) filed a complaint via video conference from Colombia, said María Manuela García Cázares.

On September 1, the State Commission for the Search for Persons put out an alert under file CDB/CEBPSLP/ZC/VIII/598/2026 and described her as 1.70 meters tall and having a tattoo with the inscription “Jerónimo” on her left arm.

The body of the missing woman was discovered on the night of September 1 near Highway 80 in Villa de Reyes. According to investigators, the body’s advanced state of decay does not allow visual identification. Nevertheless, it will require a DNA test and an autopsy. Physical description and the tattoo pointed to Almanza García, according to El Universal.

The consular assistance protocols were activated by the foreign ministry of Colombia to help the family of the missing woman with legal and psychosocial matters. The remains are kept in the state medical examiner’s office, and their transfer to Colombia will depend on the family’s request and permission to transfer the body internationally.

The case attracted attention in both countries due to some similarities with another case involving Maria Camila Díaz Grajales, a 24-year-old Colombian woman who was reported missing in February 2025 after having traveled to Mexico, promising herself a restaurant job. The case was connected with La Boutique, and the police in Colombia arrested a man whom they regarded as the coordinator of the network recruiting young women in Medellín for sexual exploitation abroad.

The investigation into the death of the woman is ongoing. So far, authorities have not announced any arrests.
