Euphoria Season 2, Episode 1 Review: Rue Raps Tupac’s Hit Em Up, Fez Whooped Nate Ass

Euphoria season 2 starts off with Fez (Angus Cloud) and Ashtray (Javon Walton) backstory which I’m truly thankful for because I wanted a backstory from these two characters last season. We had the opportunity to see the younger version of Fez grandmother, Marie O’Neill (Katherine Narducci) back in her hay day. We see a lot of similarities between Fez and his grandmother. Marie O’Neill was fucking gangster. The introduction scene you see her walk through the club and shoot the owner because he abused the younger version of Fez.

In the flashback, we see that Fez was a very smart kid and had potentially to do great things academically but the lifestyle his grandma was in wouldn’t allow that to happen. This will make you feel bad for Fez especially when he talks to Lexi (Maude Apatow) on the coach during the New Years Eve party. It is sad because it seems like they are foreshadowing a tragic ending for Fez at the end of the season. It appears this episode for fans was to appreciate Fez while he’s still here. It fits with the title of the episode as well, “Trying to Get to Heaven Before They Close the Door.” Fez is trying to do right by Rue (Zendaya) and Ashtray this entire episode. We also see Ashtray’s parents leave him with Fez’s grandmother and never come back. He takes on the guardian role but also reverts back to his grandmother’s life lessons at the end of the episode.

After Fez flashback scene we get to see a rare funny moment in this episode when Rue raps Tupac’s “Hit Em Up” in the back of the car to go make a drug deal with Fez and Ashtray. When they arrive at the scene, we get an introduction to Faye (Chloe Cherry); she’s also a drug abuser like Rue. While Faye was getting to know each other in the back of the car they got sort of kidnapped by the people Fez is doing a drug deal with because they can’t trust them. This scene is awkward for fans because you see all the characters have to strip besides Rue. After getting naked, Fez spoke to the Queenpin about doing business with each other. They eventually got the deal done and the Queenpin apologized for all the hassle but she had to be safe.

Rue, Fez, and Ashtray leave and head to the New Years Eve party where we get to see the rest of the characters besides Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Nate (Jacob Elordi). Cassie dipped out of her sister’s car over an argument. She goes to the nearest market and links up with Nate. The two head to the party together and eventually had sex in the bathroom. While they were having sex Maddy (Alexa Demie) tries to use the bathroom and almost catches them together. While I did enjoy the potential drama that could have happened in this scene. I wanted to see more of Fez and Lexi in this episode. The two having a conversation on the couch was something I didn’t know I needed this season. I would love to see Fez and Lexi be an item sometime throughout this season. I believe Fez sees his younger self in Lexi because he was supposed to be the nerdy teenager growing up if he didn’t have to go through all of the trials and tribulations growing up.

The highlights of this episode is when we get to see Rue and Jules (Hunter Schafer) reunite for the first time since Christmas. Rue tells Jules that she relapsed after she left her at the train station. At the end of the episode, the two get back together. The best part of the episode is when Fez beat the fuck out of Nate. It was about damn time Nate got his ass beat. Fez promised and delivered. It was great and no one really helped Nate because he’s been an asshole to pretty much every character on the show.
