Hold onto your popcorn and your sanity because A Breed Apart is not your average horror flick. Imagine Love Island meets The Hunger Games then toss in man-eating dogs, viral influencers, and Page Kennedy’s infectious energy and baby, you’ve got a chaotic cinematic cocktail that is equal parts absurd, hilarious, and absolutely unmissable.
In an exclusive interview with Where Is The Buzz, I sat down with the multitalented actor, rapper, and walking ball of charisma, Page Kennedy, who opened up about his wild ride filming the genre-bending horror comedy and how he brought the chaos and the comedy to life.
From Shakespeare to Shrieks: How Page Kennedy Went From Classical Theatre to Killer Canines
Let’s be clear: Page Kennedy is not new to this. He is a classically trained actor with Shakespeare in his bones and horror in his blood. You have seen him dodging prehistoric monsters in The Meg 2: The Trench and serving laughs alongside Wanda Sykes and Mike Epps in The Upshaws. But in A Breed Apart, Kennedy taps into something entirely different: Big Farmer Jay, a social media-loving rapper-influencer hybrid who is just trying to stay alive on a nightmare island filled with bloodthirsty canines.
“It wasn’t written for someone like me,” Kennedy admits with a grin. “But my manager pitched the idea and next thing you know, I am this country social media farmer rapper dude. Like what even is that? I don’t know. But I had to do it.”
And thank God he did.
Deadly Dogs, Fame-Obsessed Influencers, and Viral Bloodbaths: Inside the Madness of A Breed Apart
The synopsis reads like a fever dream. Violet, played by Hayden Panettiere, scores an invite to a private island filled with the world’s top influencers. Sounds like a PR dream, right? Wrong. The dream spirals into a gruesome, viral nightmare when the influencers are forced to hunt legendary, genetically altered, man-eating dogs or die trying.
Yes, you read that right. There are deadly dogs. Influencer bloodbaths. TikTok gone to hell. It is camp. It is chaos. It is carnage. It is everything.
Kennedy sums it up perfectly. “It is a popcorn movie. You turn your brain off, you laugh, you scream, maybe you grab your date a little tighter and you just enjoy it.”
Jungle Heat, Stray Dogs, and Bonding Over Beers: What It Was Really Like Filming in Guatemala
Shot entirely on location in Guatemala, A Breed Apart became more than just a job. It was a full-on adventure for the cast.
“It was my first time in Guatemala,” Kennedy shares. “The beaches were beautiful. The weather was amazing. The stray dogs just roaming around was, well, thematic I guess.”
But the real magic happened off-camera. “We became a family,” he says. “We ate together, rehearsed together, explored towns together. We even have a group chat that is still active.”
He laughs as he recalls being the group’s resident wise old uncle, except, in his words, “I was the oldest one there but I acted the youngest. I was the guy playing Michael Jackson at 5 AM on the van rides back to the hotel, keeping the vibes up.”
How a Cobblestone Slip Turned Into a Swollen Ankle, Daily Injections, and a Shakespearean Meltdown
It wasn’t all fun and group hugs. One particularly grueling scene saw Kennedy trying to escape an on-screen monster dog only to get injured by a real-life cobblestone.
“I slipped, sprained my ankle, and it ballooned to the size of a golf ball,” he recalls. “I thought, ‘How am I going to finish this shoot?’”
But like any good action hero or NBA player on a tight schedule, Kennedy pushed through with the help of regular injections, daily treatment, and a whole lot of willpower. “They were shooting me in the ass daily, man. I was reciting Shakespeare just to distract myself from the pain.”
You will even see the real-life medic footage in the post-credits where Kennedy is screaming dramatic monologues while getting treated. “It was painful but hilarious,” he admits. “It is part of the magic.”
Comedy, Community, and First-Date Fuel: The Surprisingly Sweet Themes Behind the Chaos
While A Breed Apart is mostly a bloody good time, Kennedy admits there is a subtle undercurrent of meaning if you look hard enough. “If there is a message, maybe it is about sticking together and building community. But really, just go see it to laugh, get scared, maybe grab a little date-night action.”
He even recommends it as a first-date movie. “You laugh, you scream, you get cozy. I give you the laughs, the scares, you just have to close the deal.”
And if your date does not go well? “That is on you, not me,” he smirks.
Stay Through the Credits: The Best Behind-the-Scenes Chaos Is Straight From Page’s Phone
Do not leave the theater when the credits roll because the bonus footage at the end is all Page. Literally.
“All that after-credits stuff? It is from my phone,” he says. “It is my Snapchat content. It is real behind-the-scenes chaos. You will see how crazy we all were.”
From jokes and goofball antics to impromptu dance battles, it is a mini-movie of its own and Page is the director of that madness too.
From Cult Comedy to Code 3: What’s Next for the Wild, Wonderful Page Kennedy?
Following A Breed Apart, Kennedy is keeping the momentum going. He is set to star in the upcoming action-comedy Code 3 alongside Rainn Wilson and Yvette Nicole Brown. He remains a regular on Netflix’s The Upshaws and has racked up appearances on Snowfall, Justified, Bones, Barbershop, The Shield, and many more.
Whether he is cracking jokes, getting chased by killer creatures, or dropping bars, Page Kennedy is the ultimate entertainer, a fearless, funny, deeply lovable weirdo in the best possible way.
Go See It, Scream Loud, Laugh Hard, and Thank Page Later
If you want blood, bark, and belly laughs, A Breed Apart delivers all three with reckless abandon. Just do not forget to thank Page Kennedy for the laughs and maybe check on his ankle while you are at it.
A Breed Apart is now out. Grab your boo, your popcorn, and your courage.
Page did his job. Now go do yours.
