When Beauty in Black season two was released, we were all ready for the drama when we watched it unfold, but we didn’t quite anticipate Kimmie gliding into the forefront of the narrative and devouring each scene whole. Taylor Polidore Williams has officially made Horace’s wife the quiet killer of the show, and the fan base can’t get enough of her ascendancy from underestimated to undeniable.
I got to sit down and chat with Taylor and discuss power, vulnerability, fashion-as-armor, and why Kimmie might very well be the realest character on television right now.
Family or Empire: The Final Test
If Kimmie were forced to choose whether to save Rain or maintain Beauty in Black, where would she stand? Taylor kept it completely real:
“What Kimmie would do and what she should do are two different things. At this point in her journey, I think she’d protect Rain.”
That right there’s why we ride with her. Because at the end of the day, loyalty’s worth more than money.
Fearless vs. Reckless
One of the lowest moments for Kimmie was when she harassed Jules’s family over the phone. It caused people online to dispute whether she’s courageous or simply irresponsible. Taylor summed up:
“It’s a bit of both. Strategic fearlessness to assert her new power, but also a decision that will absolutely come back to haunt her.”
Kimmie can only ignite a fuse that she’s unable to put out.
The Blind Spots That Can Take Her Down
Even the toughest bosses have a weak point, and Taylor’s well aware of Kimmie’s weak point.
“She’s too trusting, especially with Sylvie, Rain, and Angel. Loving them so deeply makes her vulnerable. Her loyalty could leave her exposed to the very threats that are waiting to take her down.”
That blind spot? It can cost her everything.
Power Dressed in Pink
Well, style does count in Beauty in Black. Kimmie’s fashion this season got the timeline abuzz, and Taylor confesses the fits aided the character’s entry.
“Heels change your posture, a suit makes you feel powerful. The pink coat she wears to the office was my favorite piece. I love to think she chose that one herself. It felt like the start of her new era.”
That hot-pink coat? Classic. Period.
When Silence Speaks Louder Than Shouting
This year, Kimmie’s conversation went from whispery to biting and assertive. Taylor drew from an older performance in order to deliver.
“My approach wasn’t brute force, it was quiet command. I drew inspiration from Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada. Miranda Priestly never had to raise her voice, everyone moved on her time. I wanted Kimmie to carry that same essence.”
And it worked. Kimmie does not raise her voice, but she moves you.
The Moment Everyone Was Convinced She’s THAT Girl
Taylor’s proudest moment?
“Episode 8, the boardroom scene. It felt like being a kid on the biggest playground imaginable. From a technical standpoint, those numbers Kimmie rattled off were real numbers I had to understand. I’m a thespian, not a mathematician, so I was proud of both of us.”
That’s when Kimmie began owning rather than existing.
Why Fans Identify Themselves with Kimmie
Despite her mistakes, fans can’t stop rooting for Kimmie. Taylor gets why.
“She’s real. Pure-hearted and flawed. Watching someone fight for respect is universally relatable. If this imperfect woman can overcome everything, maybe we can too.”
She’s flawed, but precisely why we all connect with our hearts so deeply with her.
Beauty in the Boro: It’s Not a Title
For Taylor, Beauty in Black also represents something bigger than the cosmetics brand.
“For Kimmie, it represents the beauty of what’s often overlooked, unconventional power. And the show itself mirrors that. Extraordinary Black and brown actors telling a completely original story. Every viewer who presses play is supporting that unconventional rise.”
It’s bigger than makeup. It’s a movement.
New Hustle vs. Old Hustle
What’s dangerous about Kimmie is the way that she plays the game. Bellaries are all about dirty, gritty, old-school hustle, and Kimmie’s got the modern playbook. Taylor spelled it out plain:
“She combines a modern mindset with Horace’s old-school wisdom. That makes her dangerous. Strategic, quiet, calculated. A true silent assassin.”
The Bellaries are unable to match that energy.
Kimmie’s Endgame
So what’s the legacy? She’s The Survivor, The Vengeful, or The Boss? Taylor didn’t blink.
“THE BOSS!”
And honestly, after season two, it’s hard to argue. Taylor Polidore Williams created Kimmie, the kind of character people watch and conclude from.
