Alondra Mercado Campos, 22, widely recognized as Miss Bolivia World 2020 and Miss Charm Bolivia 2023, finds herself behind bars at Trinidad’s women’s prison in Beni, Bolivia.
The New York Post reports that Mercado Campos faces allegations of arms trafficking, following a raid by Bolivia’s Special Force to Fight Drug Trafficking on the condominium she shared with her boyfriend in November.
Prosecutor Gerardo Balderas revealed that law enforcement uncovered a significant cache of firearms and ammunition during the raid. The boyfriend, identified as Andres Vasquez, is currently on the run and under investigation for trafficking controlled substances.
Mercado Campos deemed a flight risk, is placed in pre-trial detention for 30 days. Prosecutors are eagerly awaiting forensic tests on her vehicle, exploring the possibility of additional drug-related charges.
With over 40,000 followers on Instagram, investigators are now delving into whether Mercado Campos might be linked to a criminal organization allegedly led by Vasquez. Balderas discloses the possession of video evidence from Mercado Campos’ phone, capturing her and Vasquez at social gatherings where the seized weapons are visible.
The beauty queen’s swift fall from grace raises questions about her involvement in criminal activities and her connections to Vasquez’s illicit operations.
As this gripping saga unfolds, Bolivia awaits the results of forensic tests and further developments in the investigation that has gripped the nation.
