RCSD released the mugshot of Jonathan Pentland. Sheriff Lott said he has been charged with assault and battery 3rd degree.
Officials arrested Pentland on Wednesday at 8:30am and he had been taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
Pentland harassed and assaulted a young Black male for simply walking in the neighborhood. The Black male named Deandre actually lives in the area. Pentland is a U.S. Army sergeant first class who is being investigated over a viral video from Columbia, South Carolina.
In the video, you can clearly hear Pentland say: “You’re in the wrong neighborhood, motherf*cker.” Pentland committed with racially motivated intent (“this is a tight knit community”, “you don’t belong here” are established precedent as enough to kick him out of the military) is a hate crime.
Cassie Dalrymple Pentland has been identified as the woman filming and threatening to call the police on the young man. She even tells him to stick around and find out. Cassie also deleted their social media profiles.
