With Grand Theft Auto VI set to arrive in under three weeks, millionaire influencer Skylar Mae has some words for women who fear their boyfriends are cheating with a game.

The 23-year-old influencer said she makes over $1 million per month and finds it quite funny. She explained that women should worry about what their partners do in real life rather than who they interact with in a game.

“They could be out at a real strip club or actually cheating on you in real life,” Mae pointed out. “It’s the same thing with influencers. At least they’re doing it at home and not physically cheating on you with someone else.”

Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. The plot will follow the criminal couple of Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos in the fictional state of Leonida, including the updated version of the series’ famous Vice City. Their romantic relationship will form the core of the story.

The game has already seen two delays. First, Rockstar Games set the target year as 2025, then changed the release date to May 26, 2026, before announcing in November 2025 that it needed six more months to finalize the game.

The debate has grown online, with some women wondering whether their partners are spending hours in a virtual relationship, including the game’s strip clubs and other mature content, cheating on them.

The debate sparked on TikTok after Rockstar released an extended gameplay preview on August 27, Gulf News reported via IGN. Creator Shelby Haas claimed that the game requires players to text Lucia, date her, and keep her happy, warning her followers: “Don’t let your boyfriend or fiancé or husband play GTA 6.” Her fiancé, Alex Eubank, responded that he wouldn’t play GTA 6 if it bothers her.

Some people are unconvinced, though. They noted that The Sims allowed players to create virtual families for about 25 years without any controversy. IGN also reported that romance in GTA 6 is optional, and players who avoid it will find the pair less devoted to each other but still loyal in important moments.

“I’ve heard that girls don’t want their boyfriends playing GTA 6 because, apparently, in the game you have to maintain a relationship with the other main character,” Mae said.

“So girls are basically saying, if he’s not giving me all of his attention, why should he be giving a video game character all of his time?”

Mae, an active gamer herself, said she doesn’t understand why women get so worked up over a fictional relationship.

“I think girls worry that their man is going to be paying more attention to the game and this virtual relationship than to them, which I find really funny,” she said.

“Obviously, there’s the strip club aspect, which I can understand might upset some women, but at the end of the day, it’s still just a video game character.

“I don’t think having to maintain a relationship with someone in a video game should be a reason to stop your partner from playing it.”

According to Mae, women should actually appreciate having a boyfriend who enjoys gaming, claiming that their partners could be doing much worse things. Instead of banning their boyfriends from playing, she suggests that women should try the game themselves.

“My advice is to 100% play the game for yourself!” she said. “I think these girls should just jump on the game themselves, take a look and chill out, because at least their boyfriends aren’t cheating on them in real life!”

While some women dread the game’s release, Mae said she couldn’t be more excited and plans to lock herself in her house until she finishes all the missions.

“100% I’ll be playing GTA 6! I’ll probably be locked up in my house for a week or two until I’ve completed every single mission,” she said. “I’m so excited for it. I’ve been waiting for this game for such a long time, probably six or seven years, maybe even longer!”

Fans have waited over a decade for a new main entry in the series. “Grand Theft Auto V” came out in 2013, and Rockstar didn’t release the first trailer for its successor until December 2023.

Mae said sharing a love for gaming is one of the qualities she is looking for in a future partner, though she has not found a boyfriend to share her passion yet.

“I really want to find a gamer boyfriend! I’ve never actually found one,” she said. “I think it’s a certain type of man that I just haven’t come across yet, so fingers crossed!”

There’s one caveat, though: her dream partner should have a life beyond gaming too.

“I think it would be great to find a man who likes gaming, but also enjoys working and being social,” she said. “Anyone I’ve met so far who likes gaming hasn’t been super social.”
