Last month, a New Orleans educator who was accused of helping juvenile fugitive Lynell Reynolds escape to Texas was required to wear an ankle monitor while on bond, waiting for her felony case to be resolved.
The 31-year-old Angela Filardo made an appearance on Tuesday (October 3rd) before Magistrate Commissioner Peter Hamilton.
During the hearing, her bond was set at $5,000, with the condition of monitoring. Filardo was arrested for a single felony charge of being an accessory to an escape and she paid her bond on Tuesday night.
According to the family of Reynolds’ shooting victim Darrelle Scott, Filardo, a teacher at Walter Cohen High School, had previously appeared in juvenile court multiple times to support Reynolds during his trial in 2019.
Reynolds, who was 13 at the time, was convicted of attempted second-degree murder after shooting Scott in the back during an armed robbery in New Orleans East, which left Scott paralyzed.
Reynolds, who is now 18, managed to flee from an unsecured youth group home in Lake Charles on September 13th. However, he was apprehended on Monday in San Antonio by US Marshals, according to authorities.
