In a celestial triumph for director Zack Snyder, the Netflix original science fantasy film, “Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire,” claimed the coveted #1 spot worldwide with a staggering 23.9 million views within days of its December 21 debut.

Netflix, known for its penchant for grand promotions, orchestrated an unparalleled rollout, taking fans on a lunar odyssey through immersive experiences, sneak-peek fan screenings, and colossal “moon takeovers” across the globe.

Crafted by Snyder, the epic narrative unfolds on a tranquil moon settlement imperiled by the forces of a tyrant. Enter Kora, portrayed by Sofia Boutella, a mysterious stranger who emerges as the last hope for survival.

Snyder, expressing his elation, remarked, “It’s been a truly unparalleled experience introducing Rebel Moon to global audiences, and I’m thrilled that the movie is #1 around the world.”

The countdown to this cinematic spectacle began with a summer spectacle, where over 11,000 in-person fans and millions online got a sneak peek at Tudum in São Paulo. The teasers continued with a groundbreaking trailer debut at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, and a full trailer premiered on US television, featuring NFL’s Julian Edelman and Snyder transported to the film’s distant moon Veldt.

Netflix’s innovative promotional tour featured stops at events worldwide, including ComplexCon in California, CCXP in São Paulo (hosting the first screening of the film), and engagements in London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Melbourne, and Tokyo. Over 5,000 fans stepped into the movie-making process, creating personalized Rebel Moon trailers on authentic sets.

In the lead-up to the film’s Netflix release, Netflix staged “moon takeovers” in various locations, transforming iconic spots like Tower Bridge in London, Piazza Gae Aulenti in Milan, Lublin Castle in Poland, and Senayan Trade Center in Jakarta into lunar landscapes.

The culmination of the grand spectacle occurred in Oslo, Norway, with a four-day takeover of the National Theatre Station, leading to a breathtaking drone show at Sphere in Las Vegas. The show recreated a 3D scene featuring the mysterious character “Jimmy” surrounded by a swarm of firefly drones.

With millions worldwide taking a giant leap into the world of “Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire,” the saga continues with “Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver,” set to premiere on April 19, 2024, promising an enthralling continuation of this Netflix phenomenon.
