Congresswoman Nancy Mace has openly backed Dasha Kilpatrick, a massage therapist from Texas who has verbally abused two Muslim women who wore headscarves in a supermarket. The case has opened debates on religious tolerance, immigration policy, and freedom of speech.
In a social media statement, Mace stated, “I stand with Dasha, do you?” regarding the controversial incident.
According to the report, Kilpatrick, who wore a uniform, was filmed inside H-E-B at 3875 W. Davis St. in Conroe. She called Islam a “terrorist organization” and asked the shoppers to leave the US because it is “not their country.”
“You need to leave. You’re not welcome here,” said Kilpatrick. “This is not a Muslim country. This is a Christian country.”
In the video, Kilpatrick was seen insulting the shoppers and asking why one of them worked in health care. She referred to her as an “Islam girl” and ordered her to “go back to your Islamic country.”
The shoppers defended themselves and requested that Kilpatrick stop her actions since they were citizens. “We have citizenship here,” one of them said.
The video was uploaded to the internet, and it brought a loss of the massage therapist’s job, doxxing, and threats. A GiveSendGo fundraiser was launched, and more than $85,000 has been collected by supporters calling Kilpatrick’s words true and brave; some sources state that more than $100,000 has been raised.
Mace’s statement drew harsh comments online. The post was published after Mace had lost the South Carolina governor race earlier this month.
“Well, you both lost your jobs for acting insane in public, so that makes sense,” one of the people wrote.
Another commented that the congresswoman showed selective outrage as she supported the massage therapist only because the victims were Muslim. One more user said, “Of course you do. Birds of a feather always flock together. I don’t!”
Mace’s office refused to comment on the statement made by people in the post.
