Shalie Lipp, a 21-year-old amateur MMA fighter, died in a car accident on Sunday, just two weeks before her scheduled match.
Lipp was a passenger in a 2015 Chevy Malibu that was involved in an accident on the Red River Bridge in Moorhead, Minnesota, on Sunday, according to police.
All other parties involved in the collision were unharmed, leaving Lipp as the only casualty. The police investigation revealed, however, that Lipp was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the car crash.
On May 20th, an amateur fight on the “No Mercy 11” MMA card at the Kent Freeman Arena in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, was scheduled for Shalie Lipp, who trained at the Academy of Combat Arts in Fargo.
Jeremy Bjornberg, who represents the event’s promoters, revealed that everyone in the region knew Lipp would eventually make it to the UFC; the news shocked everyone in the community.
Shalie Lipp went 3-2 as an amateur and had a 2-0 record thanks to two decision victories. She got defeated by Cheyanne Bowers via submission before winning another decision. Before facing Natalie Gage on May 20, she lost a decision to Alex Apodaca.
The crash is getting investigated by police, who are trying to figure out what caused it.
