On Saturday, January 13th, Anthony “CMG Big Jook” Mims, the older brother of renowned rapper Yo Gotti, was killed in a tragic shootout outside Perignons Restaurant and Event Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Mims was killed in the incident, and another man was critically injured.

Around 4:15 p.m., the chaotic scene unfolded at 6385 Winchester Road, with witnesses recounting the terrifying sound of over 300 shots. According to reports, Mims was tragically shot 10 times outside a funeral at the event center. Although it is unclear whether he attended the funeral, his sister’s Instagram post suggests a connection.

Mims was quickly taken to St. Francis Hospital and pronounced dead. Another shootout victim arrived at St. Francis by private vehicle and is currently listed in critical condition.

Cell phone footage captured the heavy police presence in the event center’s parking lot, where mourners were attending a funeral. Police could be heard urging people to disperse and threatening arrests if they did not comply.

The tragedy of Mims’ death is heightened by speculation that it is connected to the murder of Memphis rap legend Young Dolph in 2021. Mims’ death may have been a form of retaliation, according to social media posts.
