Hulu has announced the official trailer and key art for “Swipe Right on the Devil,” the upcoming documentary series on the unsolved 2017 murder case of Sydney Loofe, a Nebraska woman who went missing after a Tinder date.

The new docuseries revolves around Loofe, a 24-year-old clerk at a Menards store, who disappeared on November 15, 2017, after going on a second date with a Tinder connection.

The woman Loofe connected with through Tinder was named “Audrey” on the dating app, as revealed by court records. However, her real name was Bailey Boswell.

Loofe was missing from work the next day, and her mother told police. After FBI-led searches, her mutilated body was discovered in trash bags on December 4, 2017, in rural Clay County along a gravel road about an hour west of Wilber, Nebraska.

The investigation zeroed in on Boswell and her then-boyfriend, Aubrey Trail, a conman twice her age. Surveillance videos captured Boswell and Trail buying hacksaws and other tools from a Home Depot store in Lincoln before Loofe’s death, when she was at her job.

Before being charged, Trail confessed to the crime on Lincoln’s KOLN. “I killed Sydney Loofe and am fully responsible for her death,” he said. He provided different versions of what happened during the encounter in which she died, once stating that it was an accident during sexual intercourse.

The subsequent trials became some of the most notorious in Nebraska. The testimony of witnesses revealed that Trail and Boswell discussed covens and witches and the desire to obtain some “powers” by killing someone. Three women, who had been on a Tinder date with Boswell, said that the couple talked about wanting to kill their victim and filming it.

At his 2019 trial, Trail slit his own neck with a hidden razor blade before the jury and screamed, “Bailey is innocent, and I curse you all!” His injuries were superficial.

Trail was found guilty of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and improper disposal of human remains by a jury. Three judges sentenced him to death in June 2021. Boswell was convicted on the same charges in October 2020. She was sentenced to life imprisonment in November 2021 because of one judge on her panel, who believed that her behavior did not fit the standard for exceptional depravity required for the death penalty.

The Nebraska Supreme Court confirmed Trail’s conviction and death sentence in 2022 and rejected another appeal against it in May 2025.

The synopsis of the new Hulu series shows how the search for a missing woman quickly turned into an eerie mystery. According to the synopsis of the streamer, the search for Loofe leads investigators to an incredible world of manipulation, witchcraft, mind control, and black magic.

With each new clue, investigators get a shocking revelation and discover behavior that even surprises FBI agents, the synopsis says. With every new answer, more questions emerge; Sydney’s story becomes a warning about trust, vulnerability, and dangers that can hide behind seemingly ordinary meetings, resulting in an incomprehensible case that becomes legendary.

Swipe Right on the Devil is executive produced by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Sara Bernstein, Christopher St. John, and Justin Wilkes for Imagine Documentaries, the nonfiction offshoot of the company Grazer and Howard created. Brian Biegel directed the series and serves as an executive producer along with Pete Kasko for Carousel Films NYC. Craig D’Entrone is listed as an executive producer.

All three episodes of Swipe Right on the Devil will debut October 22 on Hulu and the Hulu + Disney+ bundle in the U.S. The docuseries will air internationally on Disney+.
