Intimate Drama “LUDI” Explores the Immigrant Experience in Miami – Premieres at SXSW 2021 Next Week

Edson Jean is a Haitian-American actor/writer/director and an IFP Narrative Labs alum. He most recently was nominated for a Streamy and MIPCOM award for directing all eight (23 minute) episodes of his dramedy, “Grown,” for Complex Networks. Edson also wrote, directed, and starred in “The Adventures of Edson Jean,” which aired on HBO. As an actor, he was most recently seen in A24’s Moonlight, Warner Bros. Pictures’ War Dogs, HBO’s “Ballers” and Netflix’s “Bloodline.”

Jean latest film, “Ludi” was inspired by the experiences of his mother after she emigrated from Haiti. The film plot is when a woman is desperate to send money to her family back in Haiti, hardworking and exhausted nurse Ludi Alcidor spends a chaotic day battling coworkers, clients, and an impatient bus driver as she chases the American Dream in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood.  

The cast is Shein Mompremier, Alan Myles Heyman, Madelin Marchant, Success St. Fleur Jr., Kerline Alce, Plus Pierre, Patrice DeGraff Arenas, and Farah Larrieux.

The film was written by Joshua Jean-Baptiste and Edson Jean. Jean also executive produced the film alongside Fabiola Rodriguez and Mark Pulaski.

“Ludi” will premiere Tuesday, March 16th at SXSW next week.
