A former Bear Lake High School softball team assistant coach got arrested for engaging in sexual acts with a student-athlete, according to East Idaho News.

The article stated that a Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office investigation, which started in September 2022, led to the 28-year-old Rilee Ann Lutz getting charged with two counts of sexual battery of a minor.

Between September 2021 and June 2022, Rilee Ann Lutz allegedly had a sexual relationship with the female student-athlete, who was then 17 years old.

A student reportedly told sheriff’s deputies that Lutz had a sexual relationship with one of the school’s student-athletes when the counselor at Bear Lake High School alerted authorities to the matter.

The student-athlete reportedly told deputies from the sheriff’s office that she and Lutz did engage in sexual acts, including inappropriate kissing and touching while in Lutz’s vehicle.

Lutz allegedly admitted to sheriff’s deputies that she had the same kind of relationship with the student-athlete as she did with all of her other players.

Lutz acknowledged that she had kissed the student-athlete twice and that they had engaged in “handsy” behavior once, but she added that this happened after the student-athlete turned 18, police say.

The softball season, prom, homecoming, and the end of the 2022 school year were all times when the student-athlete claimed to have had sexual encounters with Lutz, according to police.

On March 1st, Lutz got taken into custody and charged with two felony sex crimes. Her bond was reduced from $75,000 to $5,000 when she appeared before 6th District Magistrate Judge Todd Garbett on March 6th for an arraignment hearing. The Caribou County Jail released her on March 10th after she posted the bond.

A preliminary hearing took place on March 15th and was followed by her arraignment in the 6th District Court on April 6. On July 17, her case got scheduled to go to trial.

Lutz could spend the rest of his life behind bars and pay a fine of up to $50,000 if found guilty of the two felony sexual battery charges.
