The White House is facing criticism for its decision to use Ariana Grande’s music in a video promoting the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement tactics.
The video, posted to the White House social media channels this week, is set to the chorus of the 2024 song “The Boy Is Mine” from Grande’s latest album, “Eternal Sunshine,” and shows clips of federal agents carrying out arrests.

Grande commented directly to the White House. “Please do not ever use my music in relation to this barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense. Fck ice!” she wrote, in a remark that was widely shared online before it was deleted.

Grande’s representatives have since asked that the audio be removed. The backlash against the song’s usage was strong on social media, fitting a pattern of artists objecting to the use of their music by political figures and government agencies.
Online fans and supporters rallied behind Grande. “ALWAY! ON! THE! RIGHT SIDE !” was one of the comments; others complimented Grande for using her platform.
“I will always stan a girl that will tell you absolutely everything that she thinks,” was one of the many remarks, “and she is not afraid to be the bad guy sometimes for it!”
Requests for comment to the White House and ICE have not yet been returned.
