Chuck Love, the former Nebraska Cornhuskers women’s basketball assistant coach, has reportedly confirmed in a pre-trial deposition that he had a sexual relationship with former player Ashley Scoggin, who filed a lawsuit against him and the university, as per documents reviewed by USA TODAY Sports.

In April 2024, Love initially denied ever having had any relationship with Scoggin. However, Scoggin’s lawyer, Maren Chaloupka, claims that in his deposition, Love stated that there was “sexual contact” between him and the player. Meanwhile, the defendant’s attorney refused to speak to USA TODAY Sports about the incident. Likewise, the University of Nebraska declined to comment, citing an active case.

The specificities of the relationship are vital in the context of Scoggin’s federal lawsuit filed in February 2024.

According to Scoggin, she was removed from the team after the discovery of the affair. The former player’s last game in a Nebraska jersey was on February 14, 2022, a victory over Indiana. She did not take part in the remaining nine matches, four in the regular season, three during the Big Ten Tournament, and one in the NCAA Tournament.

Prior to being fired, Scoggin regularly started for the team under head coach Amy Williams. Having spent two years at junior college, she appeared in 52 games for Nebraska, starting all of them. The guard averaged 8.3 points per game while shooting 40 percent from the field and 39.7 percent from beyond the arc. Additionally, Scoggin collected 1.6 rebounds and dished out 1.5 assists per game.

Following the 2021-22 season, Scoggin transferred to UNLV through the NCAA transfer portal. During her senior campaign with the Rebels, she posted 7.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game.
