During its first four weeks on Peacock, the critically acclaimed original Peacock film “Shooting Stars” was the most-watched original film in the platform’s history.

“Shooting Stars” has remained Peacock’s top original film every weekend since its June 2 premiere. There are currently nine original films available on the platform.

With Black audiences, “Shooting Stars” performed well above average. Peacock is a respected home for Black viewers with original programming such as “Best Man: The Final Chapters,” “Bel-Air,” “Killing It,” and “Hart to Heart.”

LeBron James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer in February.

According to film critic Matt Zoller Seitz (RogerEbert.com): “This is one of the great films about young male friendship, right up there with ‘I Vitelloni,’ ‘Boyz N the Hood,’ ‘Mean Streets,’ ‘Cooley High,’ ‘The Wood’ and ‘Stand by Me.”

The cast of the film includes Marquis “Mookie” Cook, Wood Harris, Caleb McLaughlin, Khalil Everage, Avery S. Willis, Jr., Sterling “Scoot” Henderson, Dermot Mulroney, Natalie Paul, Diane Howard, Algee Smith, and Katlyn Nichol.

Chris Robinson directed the film. Frank E. Flowers, Tony Rettenmaier, and Juel Taylor wrote the script, which was based on the book by LeBron James and Buzz Bissinger. The producers are Rachel Winter, Spencer Beighley, LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson, and Terence Winter. Gretel Twombly serves as executive producer.

“Shooting Stars,” based on the book by LeBron James and Buzz Bissinger, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of “Friday Night Lights,” is the inspiring origin story of a basketball superhero, revealing how LeBron James and his childhood friends become the #1 high school team in the country, launching James’s breathtaking career as a four-time NBA champion, two-time Olympic gold medalist, and NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
